And this year it’s more important than ever.

There are few things as alluring as the scent of freshly baked homemade treats emerging from a kitchen – except, perhaps, when those homemade treats are baked in aid of charity.

Now, the time of year has come when you can enjoy the satisfaction of raising funds for an important cause, while indulging in your preferred tea-time fare (be it a dish laden with chocolate, a show-stopping cake, or a slice that’s bound to impress).

Next month, Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea will be enjoyed across the country; it’s that wonderful time of year where staff tea rooms are stocked with scones, friends gather over a jam-and-cream-filled sponge and funds are raised for Cancer Council Australia.

Thursday 27 May 2021 marks the official day to host a morning tea as part of Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea, but you can also register to hold your event any time throughout May and June – and, really, what better excuse to get baking?

This year, the nationwide event has never been so important. During the pandemic, 60% of cancer patients surveyed reported feeling isolated – so, it’s time to reconnect with the community at large in the best way we know how: through delicious food.

Better yet, participants can connect virtually, or around a table – meaning this is one pandemic-proof event Covid-19 cannot cancel.

Cancer Council Australia CEO Tanya Buchanan hopes that this year’s morning tea will lift spirits across the country.

“Since Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea began in 1994, millions of Australians have come together over a cuppa and a bite to eat in support of those affected by cancer. We have hosts across the country who have supported us for over 28 years. This generosity enables us to continue our work in cancer research, prevention programs, advocacy and support services,” she said.
