A new luxury retreat is coming to one of Australia’s most iconic – and remote – destinations, emerging out of the red sands beside Uluṟu.

It’s the first full build by the newly named Beckons, an Australian company that leads luxury lodges in some of the most distant and stunning locations on the planet – think Patagonia, the Canadian wilderness and beloved Australian resorts such as Kangaroo Island’s Southern Ocean Lodge, the Daintree’s Silky Oaks Lodge and Uluru’s exisiting Longitude 131°. Smaller in scale than Longitude 131° (itself only 16 rooms), and positioned even closer to Uluṟu, it brings a long-awaited alternative for next-level accomodation in the heart of the country.

The project was only announced after extensive consultation with the Aṉangu Traditional Custodians of the land, with a small footprint of just eight suites and one multi-room pavilion, huddled into the dunes just outside of Uluṟu-Kata Tjuṯa National Park. The lucky guests – no more than 18 at one time – can wake up and drift off to front-row views of Australia’s favourite big red rock, and a landscape of vast cultural significance to the Aṉangu, with equally staggering outlooks from the communal restaurant, bar and lounge. Each suite will also offer the relief of a private plunge pool, to wash away the red centre heat, as well as a luxe swag for desert sky-gazing.

Each room features one-off pieces representing the core Aṉangu Creation story of the Kungkarangkalpa (Seven Sisters), in ongoing partnerships with Ernabella Arts, Tjanpi Desert Weavers, Tjala Arts and the APY Art Centre Collective. As with all the other lodges in the portfolio, food and culturally rich experiences will be built into the fabric of the offering, marking this as one of the single most significant openings in Australia’s luxury market for years.
