Two long weekends in one month, what a treat.
Traditionally Anzac Day has always been observed on whichever day April 25 fell on. In 2026, Anzac Day takes places on a Saturday and in 2027 it falls on a Sunday. State governments across New South Wales, Western Australia and ACT have decided to give the people what they want and created an additional public holiday on the Monday following Anzac day for both years so that we all get an extra 3-day weekend.
Some states will stick to the status quo and only observe Anzac Day on April 25 for 2026 and 2027. Those states include Queensland, Victoria, Northern Territory, South Australia and Tasmania. In defence of the Northern Territory and Queensland they do have a long weekend the following week, thanks to May Day and Labour Day falling on Monday, May 4.
